History of the Home

I don't know about you, but I am planing on reading At Home by Bill Bryson this weekend. I received this book over Christmas and I have barely had any time to enjoy it. (Reading = a former past time that is now a rare treat since I have an active 8 month old!). I'm in Big Sky, Montana with my family and we are here to celebrate my birthday and I can't WAIT to be sitting near a crackling fire, wrapped up in a luxurious throw, sipping a hot chocolate, or better yet... a hot toddy (it IS my birthday after all), and delve into this book.  It's about the history of the home, and the little bit I have read so far has really captivated me. I'm looking forward to learning more.  Bon Weekend!

Favorite Items from Atlanta Market 2011

Market is not only for purchasing, but it is where I get an ample amount of inspiration for my clients.  Every company comes out with new products for every market!  So, it is always fun to see what is going to be the next big trend in design!

Here are some of my favorite items from Atlanta Market!

Amazing glass lamps from Barbara Cosgrove!  Wouldn't these be amazing on a buffet?

I love the finish on this sunburst mirror- such a nice departure from the usual gold finish.

I finally found a vendor that creates affordable upholstered headboards!  You can also choose your own fabric!

And wouldn't this be fabulous over a breakfast table!

This might be the MOST A-MAZ-ING porch swing I have ever seen!  Not only do I love the style/shape but it is made in burlap which I love!

Tempered glass round coffee table that would add a bit of whimsy to any space.

Great cabinet for a flat screen as well as all those TV components!

Every room needs a bit of black!

I am in L-O-V-E
with these lamps!  They would make such a statement in an all white bedroom as bedside table lamps!

Wooden/Iron Console- can't get enough of the industrial look!

Chelsea Textiles has the BEST chests for bedside tables!  I love the new lattice one!

Wouldn't these trunks be great in a man's study or a boys bedroom?

Love the spherical light fixture!

Gabby Home knocked it out of the park for me with this French Inspired cabinet!  I can  not wait to place this in a client's bedroom with shirred fabric behind it to hide the TV!!!!!

Great ottoman for a family room!  You can hide all the stuff you want below on the shelf or add baskets!

Adorable bar cart!

Lee Industries sofa- love the dark grey velvet!

Burlap covered end table with nailhead detail!  -amazing!!

Indoor/Outdoor ottoman designed by Lee Industries!  Wouldn't these be great in front of a fireplace!  And then you could always pull them outside for extra seating!

Chic Tassel End Table with mirrored top!

One of the best round dining tables I have seen in a while- no legs to get in the way!

And to top it off, I finally found a vendor that creates outdoor swings in any finish you want!!  They are super comfy and I can not to use one of these on one of my clients screened in porches!

Beautiful Bedrooms

Several of our readers have asked that we reveal our favorite bedroom images. We have too many to fit in just one post, but at least this is a start! Enjoy!

(1)
Here's a shot of a Master Suite we designed for one of our clients in Nashville.
The bedding, canopy, and draperies were all custom made.  We found the fabulous pair of Vintage painted commodes in Boston and the Vintage Alabaster lamps at Scott's Market in Atlanta.

(2)
Canopies make such a FABULOUS statement. Look at the gorgeous embroidery work here!

(3)
Ashley Whittaker used shades of serene blues and ivories in this Master. We love the monogrammed pillows here too.

(4)
Love Love Love this all white bedroom by Phoebe Howard.

(5)
Here's another view...Isn't this bedroom GOR-geous?!

(6)
We love seeing the shirred fabric behind those glass doors and the wooden paneled walls!

(7)
We love the Sunburst mirror and the pair of chairs in front of this bed; wouldn't it be nice to sit in one of those inviting chairs either to read a magazine or to strap on your stilettos?

(8)
Sara Scaglione painted this Master Pratt and Lambert's "Wolf." This warm grey is a wonderful contrast against the many shades of white and ivory that you see everywhere else-in the bedding, draperies, carpet, and upholstery.

(9)
We gasped with delight when we saw this picture on the November 2006 cover of House Beautiful. This room is one of our favorites to this day! Alessandra Branca designed these bedroom walls in custom hand painted wallcovering by De Gournay, and it is just to die for. We love the crisp white linens and the linen velvet upholstered headboard. This bedroom even has a fireplace! C'est magnifique!

(10)
Here's another image of master we designed for one of our Nashville clients. The bedding, headboard, and roman shades were all custom made. The crystal lamps are Robert Abbey.

(11)
Erin Martin's headboard extends from wall to wall here.

(12)
Dan Carither's canopy is just the perfect proportion in this room. We love his placement of two benches in front of this bed instead of using one long one.

(13)
We love the detail in the scalloped headboard as well as the unexpected pair of mirrors!

(14)
We love the Moroccan inspired headboard and the way the floral fabric is upholstered.  And how fun are the pair of small sunbursts! Designed by Katie Ridder.

(15)
There is nothing more beautiful than a simple clean palette like cream and sand!

(16)
Palmer Weiss used one of our favorite Raoul fabrics on the headboard as well as the dustskirt!  It makes such an impact against the all white bedding!

(17)
Here's a detail of the monogrammed pillow. We love the pop of canary yellow in this room.

(18)
Another bedroom designed by Katie Ridder where she shows off her sense of whimsy and style!  The  Moroccan inspired headboard in this room becomes almost delicate when upholstered in all white!

Burlap for Days! in Atlanta Market

Not knowing how bad the roads truly were, I decided that I had to go to market in Atlanta.  Well, this time the news was right- the roads were terrible- but I made it and saw some amazing furnishings which made my trip so worthwhile!  I want to share a trend I saw in our favorite showrooms.  Burlap and Jute dominated this market, and we love seeing this humble material in so many unexpected pieces, such as light fixtures!

Which light fixture is your favorite?
