Furry Friends

If  you ask us, pictures of interiors just look better with our furry friends in them.

(1)
Can you spot "spot"? There is a custom niche made just for him (or her?).
Hint: look under the window seat.

(2)
Michael Smith's dog Jasper is featured here in the designer's bedroom. In fact, Michael's fabric line is named after his beloved pup.

What's in your Closet?

While I (Brooke) was cleaning out and organizing my closet last week, I started to daydream about having a super stylish, spacious, and organized closet.

Here are some chic closets that have inspired both Meg and I along the way.

(1)
We love the natural light and the round tufted ottoman the center of Nanette Lepore's dressing room.  But it's her pup that is really stealing the show here.

(2)
We have had this image for a while and it is such a great idea.
LOVE the wallpaper detail.
It would be hard not to delight in this closet, even on those days when you can't seem to find ANYTHING to wear.

(3)
J Crew Director Jenna Lyons' Closet
Shoes please? Um, yes, we'll take them all.

(4)
A clean, polished dressing room/bathroom by Michael Smith. Placing the tub in the center of this space is fantastic.

(5)
How dreamy to have a chaise lounge in your closet. And a chandelier!

(6)
Tory Burch's closet is so much fun! The shirred fabric behind the glass panes gives the doors added softness to this space. Not sure if we would get annoyed by having to open multiple closet doors just to see your wardrobe, although the look sure is pretty. The window behind the vanity is large enough to let a lot of natural light in. Love the pop of orange on the island and notice her dressing stool.

(7)
The "X" motif found on the drawers and the upper cabinets make a wonderful statement in this man's dressing area.

Designer Tip

Here is a fun and true tip from a very talented designer to start off your week.
Happy Monday!

"Find a great antique mirror for your powder room. The slight mottling
of vintage glass seems to make those tiny lines and wrinkles miraculously
disappear. And when people know they look great, they have more fun."

A Beautiful Trumeau from Tara Shaw.

P.S. Happy Birthday Meg!

A Treat for our Readers!

Brooke and I are excited to announce that we will be offering our readers certain "to the trade" items for a price well below retail.

Here's how it works:

We will showcase fabric(s),  wallpaper, trim, (you get the gist!) on this blog. Our discounted prices will last for 2 weeks after this blog is posted.

For our first "offering," we chose some stylish and fun outdoor fabrics by fashion designer Trina Turk for F. Schumacher.

Yes, we said outdoor. But these fabrics can be used indoor as well!

We used to think the following about outdoor fabrics: poor selection in style and color, not comfortable, and definitely not something you would ever want to cover your sofa with.

Well, GOOD NEWS, these fabrics have come a LONG way!  Today's outdoor fabrics have a huge range of style and colors. And their soft textures are now suitable for indoor upholstery.

Any of these patterns would look so fresh and inviting indoors, and could easily be used as pillow fabric, ottoman, or chair cushions! The options are endless.

 Design Inspiration
Trina Turk | Indoor-Outdoor 2 This sun-inspired print is derived from a hand painted pattern in Trina’s collection and is printed on outdoor-suitable acrylic twill. It combines a faceted geometric design with a multi-hued and summery palette. Its medium scale makes it a great option for chair upholstery and cushions.

Oh, Baby!

Well, if most of you do not know- my husband and I (Meg) are expecting a baby BOY!!!  We are so thrilled and blessed - words can not even explain!
So with that being said, we thought we would share some of our favorite nurseries with you as well as a few tips!

TIPS!
1.  Always try to use no VOC paint when painting a baby's room

2.  Purchase an organic mattress because most mattresses contain formaldehyde and other harmful chemicals

3.  Use all cotton or linen sheets, bumpers and bedding so the fabrics can breath

1. No VOC Paint

VOC  stands for " Volatile organic compounds "(VOCs) refers to organic chemical compounds which have significant vapor pressures and which can affect the environment and human health. Respiratory, allergic, or immune effects in infants or children are associated with man-made VOCs and other indoor or outdoor air pollutants.

A few nursery images!

(1)
We all remember the creation of this amazing nursery by Nancy Meyers in Father of the Bride II.  I remember when "Fraank" was designing this space- I thought it was the most magnificent nursery I have ever seen.

(2)

Another view!

(3)

Such a sweet little nursery!  We love the trellis wallpaper.

(4)
And if I have my choice- I would love to have this wallpaper on the walls for our sweet little boy!  There is just something so sweet about little birds in a nursery!
